However it is that you view life, we would probably all agree that life is an adventure.

It’s full of twists and turns, ups and downs, moments of incredible suspense, harrowing sadness, and ineffable joy.  Owning a business is no different. There’s a reason why they call it a ‘venture’. *wink*

You’ve captained your own ship and you’re heading for the great unknown… you’ve heard tails of how it will be, of what you will find, of what’s out there ahead of you, but there’s no real knowing because you haven’t seen it yet yourself.  It might not be the treasure that the map depicted, it might not be all it promised to be… but there’s only one way to find out.

So you’re off.  The sun shines bright, and the wind fills your sails, and you feel so sure of it all you could scream.  And then… some days… the dark clouds roll in, and the waves and storm rock you to your core. And you sit there, slumped down on the decks, drenched to the bone, trembling from the cold and wanting to go home.

But you stay.  You weather it all…

and because of that, each sun that rises on the dawn of those storms, is more beautiful than the one you’d seen before it. It is new, and full, in a way that makes you know that you are free, and wild like the vast sea around you… it makes you know without a doubt, that you’re ALIVE.

Any adventure that we embark on in life, whether it’s in business or not, has no known outcome. No guarantees. With an array of wonderful, or horrible, possible results out in front of us.

So the fact is… we’re always doing the impossible.

People tend to think of impossible things as big goals that can’t be reached, or things that can’t be done, things that are too hard to do, or would not work, or could not turn out well, according to what’s been done before. Of course, we fail to recognize that if things were based on what’s been done before, nothing new would ever have emerged. There’s no room for new in that.

But what we really don’t see is the real impossible things that we’re doing every day. The other kind of impossible things. The kind that are really impossible… like having to break your son or daughters heart by telling them something you know will hurt them, but that there is no way around… like having to say goodbye to your best friend… like having to watch someone you love hurting… like having to get up when life has knocked the wind out of you, once again.

You are already doing impossible things.
You are doing them ALL. THE. TIME.

Those are the truly impossible things, and you have already done them, you do them constantly— so these other things that you imagine are impossible—are frankly, no big deal.

Your heart’s been broken a million ways from Sunday. You’ve been disappointed and lost just as many times… but what I mean by that is: YOU’VE GOT THIS.

You have so totally got this. Whatever it is you’re venturing for.
You can do it. You’ve done it all. There is truly no storm you can’t weather.

So hike those sails, loves.
